Active Australian Manuka Honey
Our active Australian Manuka Honey is harvested by our specialist beekeepers along the East Coast of Australia’s pristine bushland and forests.
Active honey has much greater antibacterial properties compared to normal honey.
Manuka Honey with its antimicrobial properties has been said to ease and restore many conditions such as abrasions and wounds, infections, eczema, inflammation, fungal infections and much more. Manuka Honey is extremely sought after worldwide for use at home and in hospitals, veterinary practices and other specialist clinics.
Manuka honey contains a natural antibacterial activity often known as Non-Peroxide Activity (NPA). Through thorough research it has been found that this activity is attributed to the naturally occurring chemical Methylglyoxal (MGO). Manuka honey can contain over 70 times the MGO level than normal honeys.
MGO (Methylglyoxal) Activity Rating
One of the main components attributed to the unique activity in Manuka Honey is methylglyoxal (MGO).
MGO is an indicator of the strength of the activity in Manuka Honey.
We have Australian Manuka Honey available in a variety of MGO ratings. The activity strength (MGO Rating) on the label indicates the therapeutic benefit of the honey, the higher the rating the more beneficial the honey will be.
The MGO rating you choose depends on the intended use and antibacterial strength you prefer.
(for a comparison of MGO versus NPA ratings please refer to our graph).
MGO 30+: Manuka blend honey perfect for daily use and general everyday health.
MGO 83+: Assists in healthy immune support, ideal for daily use for boosting your immune system.
MGO 263+: Popular middle of the range antibacterial Manuka for health and immune support.
MGO 514+: High grade antibacterial Manuka honey with a high level of bioactivity used for health and well-being.

What does NPA mean?
For commercial reasons there are different symbols to represent the activity strength of Manuka Honey. The most common being; NPA, and MGO
What is Non Peroxide Activity (NPA)?
Through many years of research of the peroxide activity in honeys around the world, Dr. Peter Molan found that after destroying the hydrogen peroxide activity (HPA) only one honey still showed strong antibacterial activity. This activity became known as Non Peroxide Activity (NPA). Dr. Molan and his team discovered that Manuka honey with this NPA activity was very effective against many strains of bacteria.
The rating for NPA is measured as a one-to-one relationship to the phenol standard (NPA 5+ is the same antibacterial activity as a 5% phenol solution)
Australian Manuka honey also uses a NPA rating. It was also found that honey produced from the Leptospermum species in Australia contained NPA.
